To delete a diagram template, you must run the Delete Diagram Template tool.
Deleting a diagram template also deletes all network diagrams based on that template and the diagram content from the database. No network features will be deleted.
Note:
Diagram template deletion is an administration and configuration task.
When working with a utility network or a trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, this task must be run by the database network owner; that is, the database utility network owner or the database trace network owner through a database connection to the default version. In addition, the connected ArcGIS Enterprise portal account must be the portal network owner; that is, the portal utility network owner or the portal trace network owner. This essentially forms two-factor authentication.
Requirements
The requirements to delete a diagram template are as follows:
- This operation must be executed from either a utility network or trace network in a file geodatabase, or a database connection to the utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase. When working with a utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, you can't work from a service.
- For the case of a database connection to a utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, you must connect using the credentials of the database network owner; that is, using the database utility network owner or database trace network owner credentials.
- When working with a database connection to a utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, you must sign in to your ArcGIS Enterprise portal using the credentials of the portal network owner; that is, using the portal utility network owner or portal trace network owner credentials.
Caution:
Deleting a diagram template is not a common operation, especially when the dataset is already in use. After deleting a diagram template, users will have no access to the diagrams based on this template regardless of the named version in use.
Consider the usage of Alter Diagram Template tool prior to deleting a diagram template. For example, if your template configuration is no longer completely suitable, instead of deleting the template, it is better to run this tool with the Remove the diagram template rule and layout definitions option checked, and then reconfigure the rules and layouts you want.
If a dataset is already in the production phase and you must delete a diagram template, it is recommended to reconcile, post, and delete all named versions prior to deletion of the diagram template. This will simplify the reconcile and post workflow in the future.
How to delete a diagram template
To delete a diagram template, complete the following steps:
- Start ArcGIS Pro.
- When working with a utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, sign in to your ArcGIS Enterprise portal using the credentials of the portal network owner—that is, using the portal utility network owner or portal trace network owner credentials.
- Load your project or create one.
- Depending on the geodatabase you want to work with, do one of the following:
- When working with a utility network or trace network in a file geodatabase, add the file geodatabase to the project.
- When working with a utility network or trace network in an enterprise geodatabase, add the database connection file to the project or create one.
Caution:
Make sure the utility network or trace network is registered as branch versioned and you are connecting using the credentials of the database network owner—that is, using the database utility network owner or database trace network owner credentials.
- Open the Geoprocessing pane, click Toolboxes, and expand Network Diagram Tools.
- Expand the Configuration toolset, and double-click the Delete Diagram Template tool.
The Geoprocessing pane loads the Delete Diagram Template tool.
- Click the Browse button next to the Input Network box, browse to Project > Databases, and select the database connection file you've just added to the project. Browse to and select the network data element and validate.
- From the Input Diagram Template drop-down list, select the diagram template you want to delete.
- Click Run.
