Create an Indoors launch action

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the Indoors extension.

You can use the Create Indoors Launch Action wizard to create a launch action that opens a web page or native mobile app from the info panel in Indoor Viewer and the info card in ArcGIS Indoors mobile apps.

You can configure launch actions to open web pages, native mobile apps, or both. Be careful when including links to native mobile apps for use in Viewer, as these launch actions are not supported for desktop devices. If you only include a link to a native mobile app, ensure that workflows only include mobile apps or web apps used in mobile browsers. If the app will be accessed from both desktop and mobile devices, you can configure both web and mobile links for the launch action. This enables native mobile apps to launch when on a mobile device and web pages when on a desktop device.

For example, if you create a launch action to a survey in ArcGIS Survey123, you can configure a launch action with both a web link and a mobile link:

  • Launch the ArcGIS Survey123 web link to open in a web browser:

    https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/surveyformGUID?portalUrl=https://myportal.myorg.com/portal&field:room={Units.NAME}

  • Launch the ArcGIS Survey123 mobile link to open in a native mobile app:

    arcgis-survey123://?itemID=surveyformGUID&portalUrl=https://myportal.myorg.com/portal&field:comments={Units.NAME}

When the action is launched from a mobile device, the survey opens in the native Survey123 mobile app. When the action is launched from a desktop device, the survey opens in the Survey123 web app.

Launch actions can be assigned to layers, categories, or both. When an action is assigned to a layer that contains categories, the action is applied to all the categories and category groups configured for that layer. Similarly, when an action is assigned to a category group, it is automatically applied to all of the categories contained in that group. If you assign an action to a specific category, that action is only available to items contained in that category, and not to associated category groups or layers.

The wizard is contextually driven by the active map and displays a list of available layers and categories based on the map. Changing the active map while the wizard is open resets the wizard parameters and deletes the unfinished launch action.

Complete the following steps to create a launch action in ArcGIS Pro:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Open or create an ArcGIS Indoors map.
  3. Open or create a map that contains Indoors layers.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. In the Windows group, click the Indoors drop-down arrow and click Configure Indoors Launch Actions Configure Indoors Launch Actions .

    The Configure Indoors Launch Actions pane appears.

  6. Click the Create Indoors Launch Action button Create Indoors Launch Action.

    The Create Indoors Launch Action wizard appears.

  7. In the Description text box, enter a unique description for the launch action.

    The description is used in the list of launch actions in the Configure Indoors Launch Actions pane. You must use a unique description in the wizard to avoid listing duplicate launch actions.

  8. Type a label for the launch action in the Label text box.

    This is the name of the launch action that is displayed in the list of available actions in Viewer and the Indoors mobile apps.

  9. For the Links parameter, check the Web or Mobile check box or check both check boxes, and enter a properly formatted link to launch a web page or native mobile app in the corresponding text box. At least one web or mobile link is required.

    For Web, specify a link that can be opened in the web browser. For Mobile, specify a link to a native app installed on the mobile device.

    Note:

    You can configure launch actions with arguments to automatically populate form fields with information.

  10. For the Targets parameter, check the check box next to the configured categories or map layers to which to apply the launch action.

    You must choose at least one category or layer. You can apply these actions to individual layers, category groups, or categories from your active map, or you can check the All Categories or All Layers check boxes to choose all items in the list.

    Note:

    The list of available Indoors categories and map layers is based on the active map. Changing the map resets the wizard's parameters.

  11. Click Apply to create the launch action.
    Note:

    You can click Back to exit the wizard without creating a launch action.
