On the project Options dialog box, on the Selection tab, you can change settings that affect the selection tools on the Edit tab and the Modify Features pane. These include settings for the selection chip and the interactive selection graphic.
This topic shows you how to customize the selection tools. For steps to select features for editing, see Select features for editing.
Show the selection chip
To show the selection chip button near the pointer when you select overlapping or coincident features, check Show the selection chip. The selection chip appears with a drop-down arrow that shows the selected features in a list.
- On the Edit tab, in the Selection group, click the Options dialog box launcher .
- On the Options dialog box, click the Selection tab and check Show the selection chip.
- Click OK.
Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.
Show the selection graphic
To show the interactive selection graphic when you select features, check Display the interactive selection graphic.
The selection graphic is a visible selection rectangle that you create by clicking the first corner, dragging the pointer, and clicking the opposite corner. You can move this rectangle in the map and use it to select features.
- On the Edit tab, in the Selection group, click the Options dialog box launcher .
- On the Options dialog box, click the Selection tab and check Display the interactive selection graphic.
- Click OK.
Your settings are saved and the dialog box closes.
