To use the Business Analyst extension in ArcGIS Pro, you must have licenses for both ArcGIS Pro and Business Analyst. Depending on your license type, you or the administrator of your organization must authorize the licenses for use.
The ArcGIS Pro and Business Analyst extension licenses allow you to use Business Analyst functionality when consuming ArcGIS Online or Business Analyst Enterprise data. If you plan to use a locally stored or installed Business Analyst dataset, in addition to ArcGIS Pro and Business Analyst extension licenses, you will need the following software licenses to enable some of the functionality:
- Network Analyst software license—This software license enables you to use the distance types based on street network calculations, such as the Driving Distance parameter in the Generate Desire Lines tool, the Walking Time parameter in the Find Nearby Locations tool, or Trucking Time buffers in the Enrich Layer tool. Some Business Analyst tools, such as Generate Drive Time Trade Areas and Generate Threshold Drive Times, will not work at all without a Network Analyst software license.
- StreetMap Premium regional license—This software license unlocks parts of the Business Analyst datasets, including Street Network (used in network calculations), local basemaps that you can use without internet connection, and the geocoder that is used to assign point locations to lists of addresses. StreetMap Premium licenses depend on the region. For example, to fully enable the datasets for the U.S. or Canada, you need a StreetMap Premium North America License.
Depending on the Business Analyst bundle you have purchased, a Network Analyst and an appropriate StreetMap Premium license may be included in the package, and you can enable them via My Esri.

License types and authorization
ArcGIS Pro users have one of three ArcGIS Pro license types:
- Named User (the most common license type)
- Single Use
- Concurrent Use
Named User license type
Those with a Named User license must have an activated ArcGIS Online organizational account. Once you have activated your ArcGIS Online account, the administrator of your organization must authorize the licenses for use.
An ArcGIS Online administrator must manage the user types and roles and assign licenses for an organization. A Business Analyst Pro user with full privileges to create and analyze data must have the following user type and role:
- User type—Creator, GIS Basic, GIS Standard, or GIS Advanced
- Role—Publisher, Facilitator, or Administrator
The required privileges are assigned automatically when the license is assigned to a user with one of the compatible user types and roles, or an administrator can create a custom role and assign the associated privileges. To learn about adding members to an ArcGIS Online organization, see Invite and add members.
Administrators assign add-on licenses to members within an organization. Assign the following licenses to any member who needs to use Business Analyst:
- ArcGIS Pro (Basic, Standard, or Advanced license level)
- ArcGIS Business Analyst (extension to ArcGIS Pro)
Single Use license type
Those with a Single Use license do not need to have an ArcGIS Online organizational account. Single Use license users can self-authorize their license in the application.
Business Analyst users with a Single Use license must have an additional add-on license to access and use the Business Analyst extension for ArcGIS Pro. You can find the add-on license, Business Analyst for Pro - APP, in the My Esri administrative view.
Concurrent Use license type
A Concurrent Use license allows multiple users to share access to a pool of shared licenses for ArcGIS Pro from any computer on a network or from a virtual machine.
