Use symbology to enhance results

The water in a flood simulation can be symbolized to show either water depth or water flow rate. By default, the simulation is symbolized based on water depth, with darker colors indicating deeper water.

Note:

The symbology of water sources, drainage, and barriers cannot be altered. Only the outline color of an area of interest can be changed.

Change the color scheme of a flood simulation

To change the color scheme of a flood simulation, complete the following:

  1. In the Contents pane, click the blue color ramp symbolizing the simulation

    The Symbology pane appears.

  2. In the Symbology pane, click the Variable drop-down menu.
  3. Chose either Water Depth or Flow Rate.
  4. Click the Color scheme drop-down menu.
  5. Choose a color scheme from the list of seven available flood simulation schemes:
    • Depth (Realistic & Thematic - Classified)
    • Depth (Realistic - Stretch)
    • Depth (Thematic - Stretch)
    • Flow Rate (Realistic - Sketch and Classified)
    • Flow Rate (Thematic - Stretch)
    • Flow Rate (Thematic-Classified)
    • Multipart Color Scheme

    Tip:

Hover over a color scheme to see its name, or check Show names to show the descriptive names of all the color schemes.

  6. Optionally, adjust the higher Label (m) value.

By default, the values are 0 and 2—the darkest coloring begins for values at two meters. For example, changing the higher value to 10 adjusts the coloring so that the darkest color is seen at 10 meters instead of at 2 meters.

  7. Optionally, click the Flood water display type drop-down menu and choose a display type:
    • Fill—Fill the simulation cells with the chosen color scheme. This is the default.
    • Edges—Only show the triangulated edges of the simulation cells.
    • Fill and Edges—Fill the simulation cells with the chosen color scheme and overlay the triangulated cell edges.

The simulation updates in the scene after each change.
