Troubleshoot positioning performance

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.

You can identify areas where IPS positioning performance does not meet required expectations by analyzing the performance of an active Indoor Positioning Dataset. If you identify such areas, you can do the following:

  • Update the Indoor Positioning Dataset with surveyed data to ensure that it is up to date.
  • For BLE-based IPS deployments, check the following:
    • Ensure that the affected area is adequately covered by beacon radio signals. Verify that each IPS Positioning Point feature is associated with a minimum of four and a maximum of 20 IPS Positioning Signal records. If this condition is not met, consider adjusting the beacon distribution or modifying their transmission power to adjust coverage. Once you perform these troubleshooting steps, rerun the Generate Indoor Positioning Dataset tool.
      Note:

If you want to use a survey-based generation method, ensure that you collect new survey recordings after reconfiguring the beacons.

    • Consider checking the live status and health of the beacons, including battery level, transmission power, and advertising interval.
  • For Wi-Fi-based IPS, ensure that the affected area is adequately covered by Wi-Fi radio signals. Verify that each IPS Positioning Point feature is associated with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 30 IPS Positioning Signal records. If this condition is not met, consider extending your Wi-Fi infrastructure with more access points. Once you perform these troubleshooting steps, collect new survey recordings and rerun the Generate Indoor Positioning Dataset tool.
  • If used the survey-based method to deploy IPS, ensure that all the survey recordings used to generate an Indoor Positioning Dataset are prepared using best practices.
