Divide a parcel

The divide a parcel workflow is a record-driven workflow for dividing a parcel by areas to create new parcels. The following steps are also configured in the Parcel split: area description task.

To divide a parcel by area, use the Parcel split: area description task or follow these steps:

  1. Create a parcel record for the parcel division.

    The parcel record is set as active in the map. The Created By Record field of new parcel features is populated with the GlobalID of the active record.

  2. Use the Select tool Active Select to select the parcel you want to divide.

    Tip:
    Select the parcel polygon to select the parcel.

  3. Click the Divide tool Divide in the Tools gallery on the Parcel Record Workflows tab to open the Divide pane.
  4. In the Divide pane, under Method, choose the divide method.
  5. Under Direction, choose whether to draw a line or use a polygon edge to set the direction of the dividing lines.

    Select Choose a polygon edge to set the direction Choose a polygon edge to set the direction to use a line parallel to the polygon edge as the dividing lines, or select Draw a line to set the direction Draw a line to set the direction to draw the direction for the dividing lines.

  6. Under Values, enter the number of dividing parts or the area or width.

    An area is specified if the Equal Area division method is selected, and a width is specified if the Equal Width division method is selected. For the Equal Area method, you can distribute the remaining area equally among the parts. For the Equal Width method, you can merge the remaining area with the adjacent part.

  7. Choose Split parcel lines to split parent parcel lines where the dividing lines intersect.

    The original lines are retired as historic and new lines are created for the divided parcels. COGO dimensions are updated on the created lines with proportioned, computed values.

  8. Click Divide to divide the parcel.

    The original parent parcel is saved as historic. The Retired By Record field of the parcel features being set as historic is populated with the GlobalID of the active record.

  9. Use the Sequential Numbering tool Sequential Numbering in the Tools gallery on the Parcel Record Workflows tab to add sequential attributes to the new parcels.

    You can also select parcels and open the Attributes pane Attributes to update attributes.

  10. Update the attributes of the new divided parcels to complete the workflow.
