You can duplicate parcels using the Duplicate Parcels command in the Tools gallery on the Parcel Record Workflows tab. When duplicating parcels, an active record must be set in the map.
Parcels can be duplicated in the same parcel type to a different a different parcel type or duplicated multiple times to create strata parcels (floor levels).
Duplicate a parcel in the same parcel type or to a different parcel type
When duplicating a parcel to the same parcel type, only the parcel polygons are duplicated. When duplicating a parcel to a different parcel type, both the parcel polygon and the lines that define the polygon are duplicated. Attributes in any matching attribute fields (same name and type) are transferred to the duplicated parcels. To transfer attribute fields that don't match, you can use field mapping in the Editor settings to map fields between the parcel types.
To duplicate parcel in the same parcel type or to a different parcel type, follow these steps:
- Set a record as active in the map.
The duplicated parcels are associated with the active record.
- Select the parcels you want to duplicate and click Duplicate Parcels in the Tools gallery on the Parcel Record Workflows tab.
- On the Duplicate Parcels dialog box, choose the parcel type to duplicate to from the Parcel Type drop-down menu.
- Leave 1 as the repeat number in the Repeat text box.
The repeat number is the number of times you want the parcel duplicated. The repeat number is typically used when duplicating parcels to create overlapping strata parcels (floor levels). See the Duplicate a parcel to create strata parcels section below.
- Leave <none> as the update field on the Update Field drop-down menu.
The update field is a numeric field that is incremented for each duplicated parcel. The update field is typically used when duplicating parcels to create overlapping strata parcels (floor levels). See the Duplicate a parcel to create strata parcels section below.
- Click OK to duplicate the parcel.
The Start and Increment parameters are only used when populating an update field.
Duplicate a parcel to create strata parcels
You can duplicate a parcel multiple times to create strata parcels. Strata parcels represent floors both above and below the ground and are also known as condominiums, units, apartments, flats, basements, and vertical parcels. When duplicating a parcel to create multiple strata parcels, ensure the parcel type supports the storage of strata parcels.
When duplicating a parcel to create strata parcels, both the parcel polygon and lines are duplicated. Attributes in any matching attribute fields (same name and type) are transferred to the duplicated parcels.
To duplicate a parcel to create strata parcels, follow these steps:
- Set a record as active in the map.
The duplicated parcels are associated with the active record.
- Select the parcels you want to duplicate and click Duplicate Parcels in the Tools gallery on the Parcel Record Workflows tab.
- On the Duplicate Parcels dialog box, choose the parcel type to duplicate to from the Parcel Type drop-down menu.
The parcel type must support the storage of strata parcels.
- Specify the number of times you want the parcel to be duplicated in the Repeat text box.
This number indicates the number of floors or levels.
- Leave FloorOrder as the update field on the Update Field drop-down menu.
The FloorOrder field is a numeric field that stores the floor level. The FloorOrder field of both the parcel polygon and parcel lines is updated with the floor level number. If the FloorOrder field is not available, the parcel type does not support the storage of strata parcels.
- Specify the starting number in the Start text box.
This number indicates the starting floor or level. For example, if the parcel being duplicated has a FloorOrder value of 0 (ground floor), and if the starting number is set to 1, the first duplicated parcel will have a FloorOrder value of 1.
- Specify the increment number in the Increment text box.
The increment number indicates the interval at which the floor order value will increase. For example, if the increment number is 2, the floor order values will increase by 2 for each duplicated parcel (1,3,5,7).
- Click OK to create the duplicated strata parcels.
