As you work with a link chart associated with a knowledge graph, you can remove entities and relationships you previously added.
You can select entities and relationships and remove them from the link chart using the Remove button on the ribbon. This method removes the selected graph items from the current link chart without deleting them from the knowledge graph. The removed items will remain in other maps, link charts, and investigations in which they appear.
You can also use the trim method to remove leaf entities from a link chart. When no graph items are selected, the outermost entities on the link chart (the leaf entities) are removed, as well as the relationships in which they participate. When graph items are selected in the link chart, the same operations will be performed, but in the context of the selected items only—the trim only applies to leaf entities that are connected to selected entities.

Remove selected entities and relationships
Remove entities and relationships from a link chart by completing the following steps:
- Select entities and relationships you want to remove from the link chart using one or more of the following options:
- On the Link Chart tab on the ribbon, in the Selection group, click the Select menu , click the appropriate selection tool, and use it to select one or more entities.
- On the Link Chart tab on the ribbon, in the Selection group, click Select By Attributes . On the Select By Attributes dialog box that appears, provide an expression that selects entities in a link chart layer or a link chart aggregation layer based on their attributes.
- On the Link Chart tab on the ribbon, in the Selection group, click the Select Neighbors button and select any nondisjoined set of connected link chart features.
- In the Contents pane, right-click a link chart associated with an entity type, point to Selection, and click Select All .
In general, you can select entities and relationships on the link chart in the same way that you select features on a map or select features using attributes.
- On the Link Chart tab on the ribbon, in the Scope group, click Remove .
All selected entities and relationships, including selected entity groups and relationship groups, are removed from the link chart. When a selected entity is removed, any relationships in which it participates that are present in the link chart are also removed from the link chart, even if they are not selected. Similarly, if an entity group is removed, any associated relationship groups are also removed. To remove individual entities or relationships that are in a group, you must ungroup the entities or relationships and select the individual graph items you want to remove.
Trim leaf entities
If you plan to trim a selected set of entities and relationships, some of the selected graph items must not be leaf items or relationships connected to leaf items. If you select a leaf entity or a relationship connected to a leaf entity and click Trim , content is not removed from the link chart.
Trim entities and relationships on a link chart by completing the following steps:
- If you want to trim a selected set of entities and relationships only, select the appropriate graph items on the link chart using one or more of the following options:
